My Project has many tasks and the project is nowhere to being completed, still my project shows 90% completed. How is the project percent complete calculated?

The project's percent complete is calculated as...

If 'p' is the percentage complete of a task and 'w 'is the estimated efforts on a project, then:
    Percent complete of a project = (w1 × p1 + w2 × p2+...) ÷ (w1 + w2+...) where 1 and 2 are its tasks.

Some of your tasks must be 100%complete,some 0%complete and some % complete. So the %complete for project shows accordingly.
